What is there to do on Salt Spring?
Hello travellers!
I am often asked...'what the heck is there to do on Salt Spring?'....and this questions always brings a smile to my face! My reply, if I am feeling humorous is 'what exactly do you do where you live?'
The reply often makes people think....and reply. "Well, I work, I go to the gym, I grocery shop to feed myself or my family, on weekends I try to see a friend, may go to a move, a walk, or go shopping for some clothes, maybe get my nails done or have a facial..." In reality how often do city lovers go to the theatre or hit an exhibition? As often as I do likely, which I love to visit the city for, but it's not worth living there to do it! Plus, our theatre is awesome, and our art exhibits and musical performances are unreal and world class. The world actually comes to us, and artists, especially musical ones, make it a point to stop off here, just to enjoy the island then throw us a little concert :) We also have legendary musicians living here, by the way, that perform often for us all. Oldies like Valdy and many others. I won't name drop....they like their anonymity too!
In reality, humans are creatures of habits. We all do some or all the above! Salt Spring offers all the above. A cinema, great boutiques, a wonderful Beauty Therapist (My studio rocks) for some personal pampering at Figs & Honey , my gym rocks too at Ganges Fitness. Yoga studios? Oh my, ours our world class and for a yoga retreat there is nothing like the Yoga Centre.
Food? we have two amazing supermarkets that carry local organic produce and International goodies, by popular demand, due to all the international residents and visitors requests! Restaurants and chefs? We have a Masterchef Canada finalist in our midst that hosts cooking workshops and events for us amongst so many other culinary experts. For gourmet take-out we have Woodshed! . Absolutely dreamy food, dips and soups and desserts and cakes. There are no words.… plus the legendary Frances Bread. Line up's go all the way down the road for their mouthwatering sour dough breads and treats!! I'll do another post soon on Restaurants!
Our 'walks' are legendary, so many hikes for all levels, it would be hard to list them all. Boutiques are awesome like Twang & Pearl that carry unique and cool clothes of the season and do mail out! Pod Contemporary Gallery that have simply gorgeous clothes and art, beautiful linen and scarves and bags!
That's just two....theres loads of cool shops in Ganges Village. It's a whole afternoon worth to enjoy.
The difference in regards to what I do here....is that I am surrounded by nature and beauty, I have come into myself and I give myself total freedom to explore all my inner callings to be creative, I have time, mostly because everything is 10-20 minutes away. No commuting. I am busy, but it's good busy. If that makes sense? I don't feel rushed and I have time to stop and say hello! People are friendly, so, so friendly. Sometimes grabbing a pint of milk can take 30 minutes from hugs and chat in the store! I create, bake, paint, garden and have energy, to do and be and explore myself and the island. Kayaking, hiking, boating, fishing...yes to all those pastimes. Sailing? Ours club is the best! All my kids went to sailing school by 10 years old they had it down!
I am from London, England. I have never felt more calm, grounded, excited and enthusiastic about life as living here. Crime...minimal, aggression....minimal, rudeness....minimal, commuting....zero. Massively interesting people form all cultures have homes or live here for all the reasons I do. There is no commute, unless you want to leave the island :). I love that too, it's what I call 'National Geographic land'....the ferry is like stepping into a live video of profound natural beauty. I rarely, if ever, complain about the ferry. I even enjoy the lineup. Chats and time for me!
So, what is there to do on Salt Spring? Play, Heal, stay healthy, make friends, explore your creativity, enjoy nature, shop at the Famous Saturday Market (Im often there selling my skincare products). Dance, go to concerts, read, watch movies....I'll chat about our own Film Festival another time, help and donate your time for charity and other causes....plus of course work....but hopefully work is play because you do what you absolutely LOVE! Come to Salt Spring and FIND YOURSELF!!! I help people do that in my Healing Arts Centre...As a healer and mindset coach...it's my thing....to help people live their best lives and it all starts in the mind and body! That's what Figs & Honey is all about!
Lots to ponder....come for a visit! Stay with me and we can chat more. Bayview Cottage B&B welcomes curious travellers and I will offer you a lovely place to stay!! Plus a full retreat, should you need it! I will welcome you and who knows...you may just change your life!
Warmly
